Switzerland's major cities held their own in the Mercer list of the 50 top places to live.

In a 2007 ranking that was developed to help employers determine which overseas assignments deserve compensation, Zurich, Geneva, Vienna, Vancouver, and Auckland led as the best cities in which to live--and least in need of incentives. The survey looks at social services, education facilities, crime rate, aesthetics, and cost of living, among other factors.

About 215 cities were considered and the top-50 list was generally dominated by European, Canadian and Australian cities. In fact there wasn't much movement from 2006, although Osaka, Japan rose eight places to 42...
