Vienna dethrones Zurich.

Vienna knocked Zurich out of its number-one position as the world's best city in which to live, based on the 2009 Mercer Worldwide Quality of Living Survey.

The Austrian capital replaced Zurich's 2008 slot at the top "following improvements in Austria's political and social environment", according to the Mercer press release.

Rankings are based on a point-scoring index with New York City as the base city, holding an index score of 100. Vienna scored 108.6, versus Zurich's 108.
