The latest Integration-Index (Mipex) report--commissioned by a 39-member project group that includes The British Council and the Migration Integration Policy Group--ranks Switzerland 23rd out of 31 nations for its integration of foreign citizens, placing the country behind many of its EU neighbours.

The study, which examines 148 legislative factors, from discrimination to accessibility of education, awarded Switzerland just 43 points from a potential 100. The Alpine nation did especially poorly in terms of discrimination--coming in second from last--and in the opportunities it provides for long-term settlement, where it ranked 29th.
