Swiss road deaths drop with alcohol limit.

The number of deaths from road accidents declined in 2005, after a drop in the legal blood-alcohol limit for drivers.

In 2005, the alcohol limit was ratcheted down from 0.8 to 0.5 mg per 100 ml of blood. The same year, Swiss police recorded 5,000 serious injuries on the road--500 fewer than in 2004.

Police say 177 people died in cars, 24 per cent fewer than the previous year. Motorcycle deaths declined by 27 per cent, to 83, and pedestrian deaths by 26 per cent to 70. The number of cyclists...
