Swiss glacier to get a heat shield.

Any day now, people in central Switzerland may glimpse a strange sight in the hills around the Andermatt ski resort. Swiss technicians are planning to use a special insulating foam to wrap up a glacier that has been shrinking under the summer sun.

Carlo Danioth, who is responsible for the slopes at the Andermatt resort, told media the Gurschen glacier is to be partially covered with 3,000 square metres of PVC foam from the beginning of May. The ice field has been receding by about five metres a year.
