Swiss don't like their salaries.

A pan-European survey on job satisfaction finds that Swiss workers are relatively pleased with their jobs--coming third among 12 countries polled. But while 53 per cent are satisfied, almost as many feel they earn too little to meet their needs.

The report by global staffing company Kelly Services found that pay was one of the Swiss workers main gripes, with 52 per cent counting themselves dissatisfied with their salary. Only 37 per cent said they were happy with their salary, in keeping with the European average.

Switzerland took third place, tied with neighbouring Italy and behind the Scandinavian nations (68 per cent) and France (61 per cent). Germany was in fourth place (50 per cent). The survey included 860 people in Switzerland and 14,000 people across the 12 countries.

Kelly Services Switzerland said the countries that topped the list were those in which companies provided good support through on-site child-care facilities and flexible working arrangements. They noted that workplace flexibility is not so widespread in Switzerland, where happy workers instead credited a variety of tasks and a fair boss.

But what of the unhappy workers? Workers were 'mostly unhappy' about potential for promotion and training...
