London put on quite a show this summer--and the whole world was watching. The 2012 Olympic Games were a triumph of sporting excellence, uniting young and old in joyous celebrations around the globe. It was the kind of event that is likely to be talked about for years to come--and not only in Great Britain. Although Switzerland fell short of its predicted five to seven medals, air the athletes--including the two gold and two silver medal winners--did the country proud. Triathlete Nicola Spirig made history in the only photo finish in triathlon since the Games began, winning gold after a forensic-like examination of the photo. She and her fellow Swiss Triathlon London team members--Daniela Ryf, Sven Riederer and Ruedi Wild--reveal just how much grit determination it takes to become an Olympic athlete on page 28.

14,000 athletes united for a last time at the Olympics closing ceremony--a dazzling spectacle of British music that saw the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, dancing along to the Spice Girls. However, the ceremony did anything but mark the end of this summer's sporting events. With the Paralympic Games due to begin on 29 August, Swiss wheelchair racer and odds-on favourite Marcel Hug is training hard. We visit him at the Swiss Paraplegic Centre in Nottwil to find out how he got into the sport on page 22.
