As an impoverished writer for Swiss News, I need other sources of income to keep the wolves from the door. Speaking of wolves (bears, lynx, and some birds of prey also spring to mind) ... don't you just love the way the Swiss keep reintroducing certain types of dangerous animals to the countryside, only for farmers in Graubunden to use them for target practice?

Inspiration in the strangest places

Anyway, inspired by the greatest living Swiss person--the TV clairvoyant Mike Shiva--I developed my own mind-reading act, which I took on the road throughout Switzerland this summer to great acclaim (the best bit was counting all the money after the show).

So, dear readers, prepare to be astounded, as I demonstrate to you my incredible powers with this verbatim transcript of one of my "readings":

--Is there someone here by the name of Christian?

--Yes.

--Aha, but Christian is not what your friends call you, is it?

--You're right. They have a nickname for me.

--I bet they call you "Chrigi".

--Amazing, yes!
