Rinspeed, a Swiss car company located in Zurich, has developed an amphibious racecar. It was top pick for 'maddest car of the year' on the popular BBC show Top Gear in March.

On the street, the 825 kg quick-change artist known as Splash accelerates to 100 kph in 5.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 200 kph.

Driven into metre-deep water, the tires retract at the push of a button. A Formula-1 type rear spoiler rotates 180 degrees down, and two hydrofoils in the sleek body rotate 90 degrees and unfold into a V-shape.

We have lift off--to about 60 cms above the water and speeds of 80 kph. Without the hydrofoils, Splash reaches a top speed of almost 50 kph on water, fast enough...
