According to the 2009 Press Freedom Index, Switzerland remains one of the world's leading countries for media freedom.

The report--conducted by Reporters Without Borders, an international non-profit organisation opposed to all forms of press censorship--ranked Switzerland alongside the Netherlands in position seven: Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden and Ireland topped the leader-board, with Eritrea ranking lowest.

Reporters Without Borders compiles the list every year, using data from questionnaires completed by hundreds of journalists and media experts worldwide. This year's report covers press freedom violations between September 1, 2008 and August 31, 2009.
