Innovative Swiss make top competitors.

Technological innovation ranks Switzerland among the most competitive countries in the world. For the second year in a row, the Swiss ranked eighth among 117 countries in the annual report on competition by the World Economic Forum in Davos. Finland remains the most competitive economy in the world, followed by the United States and Sweden.

Switzerland's greatest competitive strength was reported to be a capacity for technological innovation, "with high company spending on research and development and high levels of collaboration between industry and the university community." It also has high quality public institutions, reflected in well protected property rights and very low levels of corruption by international standards, said WEF chief economist Augusto Lopez-Claros.
