Giant mirror lets the sunshine in.

Local officials representing 198 winter-weary souls in the hamlet of Bondo in southeastern Switzerland are looking at building a giant mirror to light up their lives in the darkest three months of the year.

The mirror would be similar to a 26-by-16 feet sheet of reflective steel installed last year in Viganella, an Italian town close to the Swiss border.

Parts of Bondo, including the town square, lie so deep in the Bregaglia Valley that they receive no rays of sunlight between December and mid-February.

Like Bondo, Viganella is dark during winter months because it is positioned at the bottom of a steep Alpine valley with mountains blocking the sun.
