Final preparations are underway at Swiss Post for the launch of its revolutionary electronic, proof of identity system--SuisseID.

The SuisseID is available in three forms: as a regular chip card; on a SwissStick, the mobile key for secure digital communication; or as an integrated solution with the chip inserted into a secure USB stick that contains various applications for the SuisseID.

The system is intended to provide public authorities, companies and private individuals with access to a secure digital identity. It will enable access to a number of online services and provide the means for many transactions to be carried electronically--including submitting paperwork that requires a legally binding signature.

The Federal Council is injecting a total of SFr 25 million into the scheme...
