Zurich's ice-hockey team--the ZSC Lions--scored first bragging rights in the newly created European Champions Hockey League (CHL) by shutting out Russia's Metallurg Magnitogorsk to win the 2009 CHL Silver Stone trophy.

The ZSC Lions sent the favoured, multiple-time Russian champions home after a 5:0 spanking on the ice of the Diners Club Arena in Rapperswil-Jona. The January 28 victory was the first title win for a Swiss team at the European level, according to a report on the CHL website.

"When you believe in yourself ... you can make miracles happen and this was something of a miracle," said ZSC Lions coach Sean Simpson.
