Still on the subject of the Ausschaffungsinitiative: regular Swiss News readers may recall that last month, we reported on a new Internet platform that allows foreign residents of Switzerland a say in national matters of state. The website www.baloti.ch was designed specifically as a platform for those people interested in voicing their views in national referenda, but constitutionally excluded from voting officially by their nationalities. Despite the website results not counting towards the national vote, those behind Baloti hoped the platform might ultimately prove that foreigners share roughly similar political views to their Swiss neighbours.
