Cutting back on public transport.

A new study, carried out for the Federal Transport Office, the Public Transport Union, the Swiss Federal Railways and the BLS Railways, shows nut only that public transport is one of the country's biggest employers with 303,000 full-time employees, about one in ten in Switzerland depending on the sector for a job, but it also generates 7.8 per cent of Switzerland's gross domestic product.

The study can prove to be of great help to Max Friedli, head of the Federal Transport Office, who is preparing to defend the office funding in parliament as the threat of a further CHF120 million budget cut is currently looming.
