In a year dominated by poor economic results and low demand, one Swiss industry bucked the trend in 2009. According to recently released data, Swiss producers exported over 62,000 tonnes of cheese during the year--an increase of 1.6 per cent over the previous year. Emmental cheese topped the list, making up one in every three kilograms exported. Other popular exports were speciality cheeses, such as Vacherin Fribourgeois.
