On the Aletsch glacier in August, 600 volunteers stripped to draw attention to damage from global warming.

It was the latest creative effort of New York artist Spencer Tunick, in collaboration with Greenpeace. Tunick is known for photographs of nude people in incongruous urban settings. Earlier this year, 18,000 posed naked in Mexico City.

The Aletsch is Europe's largest glacier at 23 kilometres, but it receded by 115 metres between 2005 and 2006. Many Swiss glaciers are losing mass.
