February 25 saw the passing of a legend in the international art scene. One of the most successful art dealers of modern times, Ernst Beyeler died quietly in his sleep at the age of 88.

For 60 years, at his gallery on the Baumleingasse in Basel, he held over 300 exhibitions and sold around 16,000 original works of art to museums and private collectors across the globe.

Beyeler and his wife Hildy (([dagger]) 2008) were both talented art collectors as well as philanthropists, amassing one of the world's most significant modern art collections between them.
