WHITE DEATH.
The densely falling snow blanketed the mountains during this century's last Christmas, giving an appropriately festive touch to Switzerland's already charming vistas. Those in mountain huts and villages in many parts of the country, enjoying yuletide traditions, found their Christmas carols interspersed with the loud boom of avalanches roaring down the steep mountain faces.
