Résumé

Olof Karsegard, now head of the ITC association of former staff members recalled that his first job in ITC was in Kenya in the 1970s, as project manager helping horticultural exporters sell to Europe and the Middle East. The producers were being taken for a ride because they have no idea of the prices being asked. With financing from Sweden, a system was set up to keep the Kenyan growers informed of prices and demand. The agreement to set up an international Market News Service, financed by the United Nations Development Programme, was signed in 1984. ITC's work through the Market News Service, in quality management, spices and many other activities continues today, building on its earlier achievements.
