Danish Hush; the Biggest Name On Posters

Summary

Hush is a Danish singer-songwriter duo with strong country and western elements, writing all of their songs together using instruments such as the banjo and violin. Hush was formed in 1997 by singer Dorthe Gerlach and guitarist Michael Hartmann. "We met in Michael's hometown of Randers across the water from Copenhagen. I was a street musician, and Michael, who was looking for a singer, saw me singing on the street. Michael had played in different heavy metal bands for many years. He had just left the popular singer Marie Frank's band and was now into folk music and pop country artists like Sheryl Crow," recalls Gerlach. The couple began recording the album "A Lifetime" in the summer of 2000, and later that year was released in both Canada and England. The album was a great success in Denmark; "A Lifetime" was nominated in no less than five different categories at the Danish Music Awards, including album of the year. That year, Hush experienced success in Norway and Sweden as well.
