Maybe, at the time, she didn't think her little spark would explode around the world -- in Paris, Bejing, Detroit -- everywhere Swedish women call home. But explode it did, and in no small way at that! Wherever you go, seemingly anywhere, you'll find Swedish women convening over important matters. And the keg word there is important. Don't by any means think that SWEA is just a group of Swedish women sitting around, chatting, and quaffing wine. SWEA is a worldwide organization dedicated to awarding scholarships, building networks, raising the role of women, demolishing bigotry, and putting interaction into global motion. It is said that when SWEA celebrated their twentieth anniversary in Rome, the Pope himself shouted with joy, "Swedish women! God bless you!"
SWEA, Swedish Women's Educational Association Inc., is a global non-profit organization for Swedish speaking women who live or have lived abroad. SWEA makes life abroad easier and provides support when arriving in a new place or when returning to the home land. SWEA is one of the largest promoters of Swedish culture and traditions, and we offer our members a worldwide network. SWEA supports education through scholarships and various projects with a Swedish connection. The organization has approximately 8 000 members in 75 local chapters in 33 countries on six continents.
