Summary

"I found out that in life things are not just going to come to you," [Ray Kay] says."You have to be proactive, make things happen." Most people take a lifetime to figure that out but Ray says he's been like that all his life. There's a lot of talent in Scandinavia, but growing up, he saw things differently from his peers. "1 knew what I could do even though it seemed impossible to me and the people around me. But it drove me and it made things happen."

Ray goes to New York all the time for shoots, but he feels more at home in Los Angeles, where he's hoping he'll settle down. "The beauty, the climate, the lifestyle... It's so relaxed and laid back," he says of the unique blend of nature and big city life. Ray has found that the people he connects best with are from the Midwest... maybe the fact that many of them have Scandinavian heritage explains why they, too, seem more down to earth. Ray lives part of the time in a house that he's renting with friends, and the rest of the time he spends with his producer girlfriend, whom he often works with. She is from the Midwest, from Indiana. That figures.

Recently Ray returned to his roots, focusing again on photography. In June he shot the new album cover for Backstreet Boys and is looking forward to making more still photography. Since then Ray spent time prepping his first commercial in Toronto, Canada. If all goes according to his wishes, Ray will eventually shoot spots in Scandinavia as well. "I love working with fellow Scandinavians," he says, adding that there are a lot of great ideas and concepts in Norway and Sweden that are lacking in America, in fashion and commercials. He looks forward to staging a big music video in Lofoten, Norway, the area called The Isles of the Midnight Sun. "It's incredibly beautiful, and to shoot there with international stars would be amazing," Ray says.
