Procurement returns to Malaysia.

Over the years, Defence Services Asia (DSA) has become the main tri-service defence exhibition in Asia. This year, DSA opened its doors on 8 April, took place near Kuala Lumpur and came at just the right time, as Malaysia is embarking on its first significant defence modernisation programmes for more than two years. Major contracts were announced at the exhibition and more contracts are due to be let before year's end.

At the end of the 1980s, Malaysia embarked on a major defence modernisation programme through the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding with Britain that covered Hawk trainer and combat aircraft, two frigates and other programmes. In the 1990s, the major news was the acquisition of RAC-MiG MiG-29N/NUB and Boeing F/A-18D combat aircraft.
