Swiss financial sector: the financial services sector is a central pillar of the Swiss economy, fuelling 14 per cent of the gross domestic product and employing about 220,000 people in 2004.

Its strong position has been built on traditional values that appeal to domestic and foreign investors alike--including Switzerland's reputation for total security and the existence of banking secrecy. Although these factors are likely to remain important, other factors are playing an increasing role in attracting global investment.
