Mobile air defence.
Why should a nation nowadays invest in mobile air defence systems? Looking at current scenarios a clear answer might be tricky to provide, since the threat from the third dimension currently is virtually nil. But for how long will this remain true? While roadside bombs are the common threat to ground troops, swarm attacks by light boats have become a sailor's nightmare. How long will it take terrorist formations to bring in similar threats from the sky, even in the form of rudimentary unmanned air vehicles?
The gaze of most experts is currently glued onto Afghanistan, but it would be dangerous to assume that the current situation on the battlefield would carbon-copy itself in other future crisis scenarios.
