Value can be created by the feeling or sense of confidence, of belonging, that a particular item conveys. Sometimes it's even created by the story behind a particular product or brand. One of my own favorite stories is linked to h&m, where I picked up a really fashionable Karl Lagerfeld jacket (yes, he boasts a strong Swedish heritage), which can pass for a tux in the right lighting. At ikea, we bought our first dining table for our Manhattan apartment fourteen years ago (and no, no one guessed it was ikea). And then there's the sleek design of our b&o BeoSound system and other stylish pieces 1 purchased for my wife from this issue's featured Nordic designer, Filippa ? (page 16).
