of the Joint Committee on Agriculture set up by the agreement between the European Community and the Swiss Confederation on trade

in agricultural products concerning the adaptation of Annexes 1 and 2

The Joint Committee,

Having regard to the Agreement between the European Community, on one part, and the Swiss Confederation, on the other part, on trade in agricultural products (hereinafter referred to as «the Agreement»), and in particular Article 11 thereof,

Whereas:

(1) The Agreement entered into force on 1 June 2002 and contains amongst others Annexes 1 and 2 that concern bilateral trade concessions granted respectively by the Swiss Confederation and by the European Community (hereinafter referred to as «the Parties»).

(2) On 1 January 2007 the European Union was enlarged by the accession of Bulgaria and Romania. The Parties agreed to adapt the bilateral trade concessions on the principle that the trade flows in accordance with the preferences granted under the bilateral arrangements between the new Member States to the European Union and Switzerland should be mutually maintained in substance. The Parties adopted, on an autonomous and transitory basis, measures to ensure continuity of trade flows in the interim period.
