Giving peace a chance with ad hoc Radios: in the world of military communications it is easy to become enthralled by the seemingly endless capabilities offered by today's state-of-the-art tactical radios. Armed forces across the industrialised world are well aware of the need to speedily and securely move voice and data traffic around the battlefield with zero interruptions.

A mid the never-ending deluge of global media coverage it is easy to forget that alongside the high-tempo combat and counter-insurgency operations in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya there are scores of simmering or dormant conflicts that scarcely receive mention on the evening news. Into these 'forgotten wars' peacekeeping forces are deployed, many of which are staffed by military personnel from developing countries.

Armies in the developing world constantly face the challenge of being adequately equipped, while often lacking the budget to purchase the latest 'all-singing, j all-dancing' communication systems. Yet, J when performing any kind of military operation, including peacekeeping, reliable communications are a must.
