10th anniversary and a lot going on: celebrating its ten years of existence, this year's Idex might not have been the most thriving edition of the Abu Dhabi biennial land defence equipment exhibition in terms of legendary 'contracts of the century', but certainly was high in quality in terms of wares and developments to be discovered.

Whilst armoured vehicles of all sizes and types took the lion's share by being displayed both indoors and outdoors, numerous companies presented true novelties -some very spectacular, notably in the world of simulation and electronics - while others confirmed their essential presence in terms of education, training and support, as exemplified by France's Defense Conseil International.

FGA: Mercedes chose Idex to publicise its new FGA unit, the German acronym resulting in something like 'Chassis for Special Applications', that enables the three-pointed star firm to cost-effectively offer a la carte solutions based on existing, but modified chassis and study the extent to which work can be shared with export customers.
