5. [Julie Nelson] joined KARE 11 in September 2003 and was named "Best Newcomer" only months later by Mpls.St.Paul Magazine. In 2000, she won a regional Emmy for anchoring, and has twice been named "Best Anchor" by City Pages. Born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Julie's paternal grandparents are both Norwegian. "I've never been to Scandinavia," she says, "but I would love to go to Norway with my parents. Every year we go to a country church right outside of Bloomer, WI, where my grandparents live. It's a Norwegian church, and one of the first churches to be built in the area. All these people of Scandinavian descent fill the pews, and the small cemetery outside is filled with Scandinavian family names. It's a great tradition."

How Scandinavian are you? While on the road through Minnesota we visited KARE 11, an NBC-affiliated television station licensed to Minneapolis, MN, serving the Twin Cities of Minnesota and parts of western Wisconsin, and quizzed some of its brightest personalities, both in front of and behind the cameras.
