Alice is my adopted Grosi, or Swiss-German grandmother. She's the grandmother of my Swiss boyfriend, who I met in Geneva when I was a foreign exchange student. I have grandparents back in the United States, but I've never quite met anyone like Grosi. When I talk to other Swiss about their grandmothers, they usually give a shrug and roll their eyes...
