Navies around Asia, Europe and North America are enhancing their frigate and corvette fleets. As the twenty-first century unfolds, these surface combatants have shown themselves to be versatile platforms capable of supporting naval operations, peacekeeping missions and humanitarian deployments. This is due to the fact that frigates and corvettes are ostensibly designed as ships that can operate either independently or as part of a task force.

New-build vessels are entering service in Europe and Asia, but upgrades are also continuing on vessels belonging to European, Asian, Australian and North American navies as a cost-effective means of keeping the capabilities of these important vessels sharp and versatile.
