Artillery on target--trajectory correctable munitions.

Artillery has entered a new era, in that the projectiles have become smart. Altering the trajectory of a projectile after it has left the muzzle is no longer a gunner's dream but is rapidly becoming an accepted reality. Projectiles can now be fired with a reasonable expectation that they will efficiently cover a pre-selected target area to ensure it has been neutralised.

Many observers may wonder why it is necessary to alter the trajectory of a projectile after it has been fired, especially in these days of complex fire control and land navigation. The reason for the new munitions is inherent in the very nature of artillery.
