Hush is a Danish singer-songwriter duo with strong country and western elements, writing all of their songs together using instruments such as the banjo and violin. Hush was formed in 1997 by singer Dorthe Gerlach and guitarist Michael Hartmann. "We met in Michael's hometown of Randers across the water from Copenhagen. I was a street musician, and Michael, who was looking for a singer, saw me singing on the street. Michael had played in different heavy metal bands for many years. He had just left the popular singer Marie Frank's band and was now into folk music and pop country artists like Sheryl Crow," recalls Gerlach. The couple began recording the album "A Lifetime" in the summer of 2000, and later that year was released in both Canada and England. The album was a great success in De...

Madeleine FaIk started at the Ballet Academy of Gothenburg, and thanks to a grant from Prime Minister Ingvar Carlsson, pursued a career in dancing and acting, eventually ending up in Los Angeles. There she met the love of her life, Louis Garcia, "the world's best trick jump-roper". The pair has since traveled the world as "The Rebel Ropers", performing for Nike in Singapore, on the Today show, at several hotels in Las Vegas, and locally at the House of Blues. Always with a smile, the charming Swede flies through the air - spinning the rope or juggling clubs at the speed of light - while balancing on giant balls, negotiating hoops of fire, at times on stilts. An original member of "Girls on Stilts", she also works with the variety troupe "The Mums". Dancing also led to an impressive c...

After much investigating it turned out the "scarecrow" is a figurehead from Nightingale, an American tea clipper, and that it represents Jenny "the Swedish Nightingale" Lind (1820-1887) the famous Swedish opera singer. Nightingale participated in the famous Tea Race from China to London and blockaded Confederate ports during the Civil War.

If Carrie Bradshaw from Sex in the City was Norwegian, she surely would have worn one of these. Designer Siv Elise Seland (31) turned down a job offer from Guerriero, former chief designer for Versace, and an offer from Versace as well, and moved home to Norway after three years in Italy. Now her chic knitted jackets and sweaters can be spotted on even the hottest Norwegian artists. Singer-songwriters such as Ane Brun and Marit Larsen, the latter most known to Americans as half of the pop duo M2M, are two of the many young Norwegians who love Seland's designs.

[Anders Zorn] was very clever with light," [Vebjorn Sand] explained. "It's not just about painting and colors, but also how you handle the models. Zorn has been a role model for me. As an artist he is a phenomenon. He worked during a period when art history was written in terms of evolution," Sand said. "He was active during the height of impressionism, but unapologetically referred back at Diego Velazquez. Zorn, John Singer Sargent and Joaquin Sorolla were among the few who did so, and from a technical point of view, those three were the best in the world. It's only been during the last few years that we are discovering again how great they were, their enormous quality.
Sand is not the only artist from Norway to be inspired by the Renaissance and Baroque approaches to painting. "It's...
