Although import duties on many agricultural products have been dropped or waived as part of preferential trading agreements, farmers in developing countries are facing new challenges to selling their products around the world. The World Trade Organization Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures () aims to provide the balance between the right of governments to protect food safety, plant and animal health, and prevent these sanitary and phytosanitary measures from being unjustified trade barriers. Following regular discussions to ensure that developing countries fully benefit from and receive assistance in meeting their obligations, the SPS Committee has adopted a procedure whereby developing countries may request special and...

Despite the potential for trade in food and agricultural products to generate economic growth and reduce poverty in developing countries, meeting food safety, animal and plant health requirements remains a challenge for farmers, processors and government agencies in some countries. Bringing together more than 20 different organizations, the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) focuses on enhancing the capacity of developing countries to implement international sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) requirements in order to facilitate market access. Kleemann isn't manufacturing a super-car of its own. But hints of big ambitions for the future were flying fast and furious when we toured the Kleemann plant in a suburb of Copenhagen.
In 2002, for example, Danish race driver Jason Watt drove 338 km/hr in a 607 Hp Kleemann E 55 K making it the world's fastest four-door saloon car and less than a year later a ML 55 K bearing the Kleemann's logo clocked a remarkable 282 km/h on Nardo in southern Italy.
[Christian Wichmann Brandt], age 33, says that Kleemann follows the Scandinavian form-follows-function aesthetic. "Cars shouldn't have all kinds of exaggerated details, like spoilers that don't work or air ducts that have no function. We are adding the phenomenon of speed and power to the utmost in comfort and Scandinavian design," he expla...

The European Community represents one of the primary destinations for Indian goods, accounting for one fifth of Indian exports. Indian goods have been at the receiving end of a significant majority of anti subsidy investigations initiated by the European Commission. Such goods have been alleged to be benefiting from subsidies inconsistent with Council Regulation 2026/97 which forms the legal basis for anti subsidy investigations initiated by the Commission. The paper puts forth an analysis of India's export incentive schemes including old schemes already subjected to challenge as well as new schemes vulnerable to challenge in future investigations with regard to the Council Regulation 2026/97 and the WTO Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures.
