[Julie Nelson] joined KARE 11 in September 2003 and was named "Best Newcomer" only months later by Mpls.St.Paul Magazine. In 2000, she won a regional Emmy for anchoring, and has twice been named "Best Anchor" by City Pages. Born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Julie's paternal grandparents are both Norwegian. "I've never been to Scandinavia," she says, "but I would love to go to Norway with my parents. Every year we go to a country church right outside of Bloomer, WI, where my grandparents live. It's a Norwegian church, and one of the first churches to be built in the area. All these people of Scandinavian descent fill the pews, and the small cemetery outside is filled with Scandinavian family names. It's a great tradition.
