The veil was a gift to Queen Ingrid's mother, Crown Princess Magareta of Sweden, who wore it at her own wedding at St. George's Chapel, Windsor, in 1905. Prince Frederik's own mother, the extremely popular Queen Margrethe II, had also worn the same veil at her 1967 wedding to Henri de Monpezat.

In spite of terrible events and constant threats, the Iraqis open their shops every day, they go to school every day... One of my fondest images from Iraq is some footage from the election. Many Iraqis were afraid to vote, and a Danish TV-crew was waiting by a polling station that had been open for hours. Nobody came to vote, and the crew was beginning to give up, when in the distance they saw the dust of 4,000 people coming, on foot since they weren't allowed to drive. They had come to vote, stayed together as a group figuring there's safety in numbers and they almost stormed that polling station. I admire the Iraqis, there's a drive in them, they're resilient and they want to make use of their right to make a difference.
