The Swiss Osborne House on the Isle of Wight, off the English south coast, continues to be preserved in honor of Queen Victoria who used it as a retreat house for her family. The Osborne House, built in 1845-52 at Queen Victoria's expense, is an Italianate building with tall campanille towers and terrace gardens overlooking the waters of the Solent near East Cowes.
