The manager of the Acne Jeans boutique and showroom in Copenhagen not only enjoys what he does, he knows his stuff. He combines self-confident expertise with a minimum amount of attitude. Chatting with him, one understands why Copenhagen is considered by some as the next fashion capital among places like Paris, London, Milan and New York. Copenhagen has a thrilling tendency to tease with tradition by mixing innovative ideas with a delicate amount of retrospect and humor. Key in designer circles of all Nordic capitals is not following the trend of global fashion designers and to create their own unique Nordic palate with an urban feel.

This is an amazing place to live," says Western Harbour resident Anne Lisa Georgia James, 30, who was born and raised in Copenhagen. "The view changes every day because there are always new ships coming into the harbour.
The singular attractiveness of the water-front real estate is evident from the fact that [Malm]ö and Skåne were recently selected as one of the preliminary race venues of the 32nd America's Cup sailing competition. The arrival of a fleet of exclusive racing yachts and 12 teams from 10 different countries (August 24-September 4) is hailed as "the biggest thing to ever happen to Scandinavian sailing."

We know, it's a no-brainer: Björn Borg, Inc. has started quietly with mostly underwear, online at www.b/ornborg.com and in a store on Manhattan, at 89 Crosby Street.

Hush is a Danish singer-songwriter duo with strong country and western elements, writing all of their songs together using instruments such as the banjo and violin. Hush was formed in 1997 by singer Dorthe Gerlach and guitarist Michael Hartmann. "We met in Michael's hometown of Randers across the water from Copenhagen. I was a street musician, and Michael, who was looking for a singer, saw me singing on the street. Michael had played in different heavy metal bands for many years. He had just left the popular singer Marie Frank's band and was now into folk music and pop country artists like Sheryl Crow," recalls Gerlach. The couple began recording the album "A Lifetime" in the summer of 2000, and later that year was released in both Canada and England. The album was a great success in De...

Scottsdale Airpark, Arizona, may just be your next destination to indulge in Scandinavian contemporary design. The Center of Modern Design has opened in an 8,500-square-foot space which includes shop-in-shop areas for such design icons from the north as Bang & Olufsen, Hastens Beds and Georg Jensen. Bodil and Chris )0rgensen, who earlier started the internet based Danish design retailer House of Copenhagen seem to be on a mission - to gather the very best of Nordic design under one roof and at one site. "Our goal was to be the place in the U.S. where you can see all the important masters," says Chris Jergensen, who has filled this designer's Mecca with the likes of Arne Jacobsen, Harts Wegner, Finn Juhl, Bruno Matthson, and Alvar Aalto. The store and showroom can also be transformed...
